Von Mende Signs Letter of Intent with Vikings
5/30/08 - Tommy Von Mende (Council Bluffs, Ia.) has signed a letter of intent to compete for the Grand View men's soccer team beginning in the fall of 2008.

Von Mende is an all-conference midfielder/forward from Lewis Central High School.

“I am glad that Tommy has decided Grand View is where he wants to continue his academic and soccer careers. He is ready for the challenge at the next level, and I believe he will be successful. Parents Chris and Dawn are Grand View alumni, so having Tommy commit to Grand View makes me feel very proud to have their son here," said Viking head coach Blair Reid.

Von Mende is the son of Chris and Dawn Von Mende of Council Bluffs. He plans to study Sport Management at Grand View.


Craig Commits to Viking Soccer Program
4/20/08 – Elijah Craig (Lincoln Northeast H.S./Lincoln, Neb.) has signed a letter of intent to compete for the Grand View men’s soccer team beginning in the fall of 2008 announced by head coach Blair Reid.

“It was great news to hear when Elijah made his decision to attend Grand View College this fall. In the months spent recruiting this student-athlete, I have come to know Elijah and his parents and cannot say enough how happy and honored we are to have Elijah and his family become a part of the Grand View community. A talented soccer player, Elijah will bring both athleticism and the ability to play several positions for our squad this season. More importantly, he is a graphic artist in the making, who is eager to learn and be challenged by Grand View’s acclaimed graphic arts program,” said Reid.





Five Vikings Earn NAIA All-American Honors

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 2007 Men's Soccer All-America Teams, as selected by the NAIA Men's Soccer All-America Selection Committee. Five Grand View men's soccer players were named to the Honorable Mention All-America Team. Goalkeeper Darren Martin (Dumfries, Scotland), forward Mirsad Kazic (Des Moines, Ia.), midfielder Chris Scott (Elderslie, Scotland), Gustavo Rocha (Belo Horizonte, Brazil), and Iain Whitside (Glasgow, Scotland) all earned honors. Carver Named NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete
11/20/07 - Senior Jordan Carver (Cedar City, Utah) has been named to the NAIA-Daktronics All-America Scholar-Athlete Team.

In order to be a recipient of the NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athlete award, an athlete must be a junior or above in academic standing and have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale).  Complete Release

Five Vikings Named to NAIA All-Region VII Team
11/12/07 - Five members of the Viking soccer team have been voted to the NAIA All-Region VII Team. Mirsad Kazic, Darren Martin, Gustavo Rocha, Chris Scott, and Iain Whiteside all earned All-Region honors.

Eight Vikings Earn MCC All-Conference Honors
10/31/07 - Eight members of the Grand View men's soccer team have been selected to the Midwest Collegiate All-Conference Team announced today. Sophomore forward Mirsad Kazic, senior midfielder Jordan Carver, senior defender Gustavo Rocha, junior defender Iain Whiteside, senior midfielder Ernad Jaskic, and sophomore midfielder Chris Scott were all named to the First Team. Junior midfielder Marcus Dawson and freshman goalkeeper Darren Martin were named to the Honorable Mention Team.

The Vikings went 7-1 in conference play, were the MCC regular season co-champs, and won the MCC Tournament. Going into the first round of the NAIA Regon VII Tourney, the Vikings hold seven-game unbeaten streak. They are currently rated as the No. 24 team in the NAIA and will attempt to earn their fifth consecutive trip to the NAIA national championships. Vikings Qualify for Region VII Tourney
11/02/07 - The NAIA Region VII Men's Soccer Tournament bracket has been released. Grand View qualified for the tourney as the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 Olivet Nazarene in the first round of the Region VII Tournament on Friday, Nov. 2, at 6:30 p.m. at Cownie Complex in Des Moines. The winner will face No. 2 seed Judson Monday, Nov. 5, at 1 p.m. in the semifinal round. The championship game is Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m. The Region VII semifinal and championship games will be held at the Burlington RecPlex in Burlington, Iowa.

Vikings Win MCC Tournament
10/28/07 - The Vikings have won the MCC Tournament and an automatic bid to the NAIA Region VII Tournament with a 1-0 win over St. Ambrose today in Davenport.

Grand View scored early in the game on a goal by Lyall Menzies, assisted by Marcus Dawson in the 8th minute.

Goalkeeper Joe Waithanji was credited with 8 saves and the shutout.

The Region VII Tournament begins Saturday, Nov. 3. The Region VII Tournament bracket will be released on Wednesday, October 31.
